Alfie Scholar Bokyung Kim Speaks at Cascadia College

Cascadia College President Eric Murray recently invited Bokyung Kim (Finance and Marketing, 2023) to share her academic journey at her alma mater’s board of trustees’ January meeting. In her presentation to the board, Bokyung shared how Cascadia College influenced her life and her new experiences as a transfer student and Alfie Scholar at Seattle University. Bokyung’s former professor, Lelia Olson, shared, “She beautifully encouraged everyone at the meeting as she shared how much Cascadia means to her and how much our work matters in the lives of students. In these difficult pandemic years, she encouraged many when it is sometimes hard to keep our spirits up.” In a subsequent meeting, another administrator said Bokyung’s presentation was one of the highlights of her year.

“Being asked to speak at the board meeting was something I would never have imagined when I attended Cascadia College two years ago, so I felt surprised and a little nervous at first,” Bokyung said. “However, I found myself very comfortable in the meeting thanks to the presence of Professor Olson and the warm attention everyone gave me. Starting from South Korea to Cascadia College and becoming an Alfie Scholar at Seattle University, I shared my life story and how it shaped my values and calling in life. It was a wonderful moment of reflection and gratitude. I thank Professor Olson, the Cascadia College board of trustees, and President Murray for giving me this opportunity and listening to my story.”

Bokyung is an international student from Korea. In addition to being an Alfie Scholar, Bokyung is the international student representative for the Student Government of Seattle University and a member of Tau Sigma Nu Transfer Honor Society. Bokyung’s long-term goal  “is to influence the business world to prioritize civility by factoring social and environmental impacts in their decision-making and by promoting civility in their work environment.”
