Alfie Scholars Cohort 6 (2021)

About Cohort 6

The eleven 2021 Alfie cohort members are between the ages of 19 and 35. Nine are women. Eight were born outside the United States, specifically in Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Nepal, South Korea, and Sudan. Four are international students. Five are the first in their families to attend college. All of the scholars speak at least one other language, in addition to English. They speak the following 17 different languages among them: Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, French, Hindi, Khmer, Korean, Kiswahili, Kisii, Lingala, Luo, Nepali, Punjabi, Spanish, Thai, Tigrinya, and Urdu.

Ten of the scholars are transferring from seven Washington State community colleges: Bellevue, Cascadia, Highline, North Seattle, Seattle Central, Shoreline, and South Puget Sound Colleges. One is transferring from West Los Angeles College.

These new scholars bring a wide variety of experiences, perspectives, and career goals. Four are working to complete degrees in Nursing, two in Business Administration with a major in Management, one in Computer Science, one in Computer Engineering, one in Global Business and Accounting, one in Business Analytics, and one in Accounting.
