Virtual Alfie Family Reunions

In 2020 we consistently have to call upon one of the tenets of civility and use our creativity to connect and build community. At the start of the new school year, we hosted several virtual meet-ups to introduce Cohort 5 to the Alfie family.

The current students and alumni were invited to join each other in affinity groups by colleges. It was wonderful to have 60% of our community come together for these meetings. On the plus side of current social distancing rules, alumni in WA, CA, CT, and MD were able to join us for the events. The alumni and Cohort 4 members shared their wisdom with our new cohort members on making the most of their Alfie and Seattle University experiences.

The events lasted long past their scheduled times as Alfies reconnected and caught each other up on their personal and professional lives. They discussed marriages, new babies, promotions, new jobs, and graduate school. The current students inquired about favorite classes and professors, tips on securing an internship, and how to start the job search.

Kudos to Alfies from the Albers School of Business. All of their alumni and students attended their gathering. Members of the College of Science and Engineering also had a spirited meeting. Alfie Senior Richard Pallangyo reflected on the evening: "2020 has been a year full of uncertainties. But I am grateful to have the Alfie family to connect with virtually. Virtual Retreats and regular check-ins have been a great reminder that there are people who care about me deeply. I feel supported and seen through these events as they provide a safe space where people will listen to you with so much heart."

We look forward to the time we can gather together in person once again, but in the meantime, we are grateful for opportunities for inspiration and connection.
